Turtle Buddha Creates Kindness

Posted on Jun 10th, 2008 by Rev. Travis Eneix : Philosopher-lite & Self-Inquirer Rev. Travis Eneix

Enlightenment and epiphanies can show up in some pretty strange ways. The Buddha found it under a Boddhi tree, Nelson Mandela in prison and spiritual guru Ram Dass through psychedelic drugs. Little did I know, mine would arrive in the form of a hard-shelled reptile simply trying to cross the road -- a turtle.

Shhhh, I'm going to tell you a secret. One of my wife's nicknames for me is turtle. I'm not going to tell you why, but it is with great joy that I read this piece over at HelpOthers.org - A Turtle Who Taught Me Kindness. Enjoy!

Ummmm, I don't feel comfortable saying in a public forum, and I don't know you well enough to tell you privately.  ;-)

makes perfectly good sense to me, think about it nicolejee!
Hey God is everywhere, turtles can teach us a lot, as dogs teach us loyalty. In hebrew we say mazal,

combination of two hebrew words, one meaning time, the other meaning opportunity, being prepared and open, so when you are prepared and open, at the right time and second, the light can be reflected in anything, a turtle, a dog, a person, a tree. it is also called, hashgacha pratis, or, divine providence…God always sends his angels to dispatch what needs to be done…even creatures or turtles, everything has God in it..

blessings for more turtle courses~!! no pun intended..

Yaffie,

I think that Nicole was asking why my wife calls me Turtle rather than why the Turtle was the metaphor in the story.  And, I'm still not telling.  ;-)

I read the message, and liked it.  But, still not about why my wife calls me Turtle.  Trust me.  ;-)  It is a beautiful sentiment though.  Thanks for that.

Close.  She calls me Bear as well, and partly due to my thick skin.  The name Turtle serves a more intimate purpose.  ;-)
